Success or failure it is a little difficult to tell at this point in time. An industry that used to be billed as friendly and honest has recently tossed aside that reputation for a new and less attractive one. Being seen by the general public as an industry that is just worried about itself will they ever come back to where they used to be in the eyes of the public? Will they ever look to return to being a customer service based industry? Well, the speculation continues and many people wonder where is all the money going and if they aren’t using it to serve their customers then what are they doing with it all?
Well, you might be surprised that when the airlines list their biggest expense they list labor as the largest amount that they pay out annually. It seems rather odd that if they are paying this many people to work for them that they could get the occasional friendly person or at least one who knows who how to smile on occasion. It is difficult to believe that this is their largest expense so let’s just take a look a little further.
Their second highest expense is fuel. Fuel? Well, this is an interesting fact to consider. Oil prices are down and still this is one of their highest expenses? Interesting.
So what isn’t a top priority? Well, only things like plane maintenance, purchasing new aircrafts, and you. Other than that the commercial airlines have you covered. Now this information is based on what the airlines say are their biggest expenses but it is rumored that the airlines collectively spend billions of dollars trying on politics and getting what they want in the way of laws. So maybe the truth is that the commercial airlines really don’t need to business that they are getting from you, perhaps the real money comes out of the legislation that they are getting passed in favor of them each year.
It doesn’t seem like things are going to be getting any better down the road so it may be best to put your money in the hands of the private jet industry at least when you charter a plane you know that you will be getting what you pay for. That’s more than the commercial airlines can offer you.
