American Airlines reports larger than expected losses; AirTran not considering merger

North and South American airline stocks took a dive on Wednesday (21-Apr-2010) after American Airlines (-9.2%) and AirTran (-8.5%) reported losses for 1Q2010. Airline investors were also concerned over news the European ash sttack has cost airlines worldwide USD1.7 billion, according to IATA.
